History
As a result of Torotrak and MTD Products working together under an initial Joint Development Agreement which was signed in February 2005, it was recognised that Torotrak's expertise in full-toroidal traction drive technology, combined with MTD's proven skills in efficient, high volume manufacturing, would provide the basis for forming a new and powerful business entity. Consequently, Infinitrak™ was formed in November 2005, as a formal Joint Venture company between Torotrak and MTD, to achieve commercial exploitation of low-power, full-toroidal traction drive transmissions in the OPE and related markets.
Infinitrak's objective is to maximise sales of the Twin Toroidal Transmission (TTT) and other toroidal transmission products with its lead customer, MTD, as well as to third party clients, and to exploit the opportunity for applying its full-toroidal traction drive technology to other vehicles in the 0-45kW power range and to similar products.
MTD's and Torotrak's commitment to form and develop Infinitrak™ is based upon a number of shared principles, including:
- Joint ownership - with both parent companies, Torotrak and MTD, having an equal ownership of Infinitrak™
- Management through a Board of Managers comprising senior managers nominated by each parent company - three from Torotrak and three from MTD
- The granting of exclusive rights to Infinitrak™ for the use of Torotrak's patented technology in Infinitrak's field of business
- A commitment to exploit Infinitrak's technology and products to a wide range of customers in the OPE and related markets.
Following a comprehensive and rigorous development programme, Infinitrak™ launched its initial product for the OPE market - the Twin Toroidal Transmission (TTT) - in April 2008. The Twin Toroidal Transmission (TTT) provides unrivalled benefits for the OPE market in terms of cost effectiveness, machine performance and driver experience, which can be applied to other OPE and vehicle applications in the 0-45kW power range.
In February 2010, Infinitrak™ unveiled its new epicyclic traction drive technology which combines the functionality of a thrust bearing and epicyclic drive stage, eliminating the requirement for meshing gear teeth in the transmission epicyclic arrangement. This results in a quieter, highly durable and cost-effective IVT, which is ideally suited to applications in the Outdoor Power Equipment market. The technology will be incorporated into the company's forthcoming Single Toroidal Transmission (STT).
